My Review and Thoughts:

My Rating: Film: 4 out of 5

This is the first time I have seen this film, and was so excited about that reality. I love adventuring into films I have never seen. Twilight Time did it again, digging deep into the recesses of cinema and pulled out this unique wonderful drama. It was about time, that this oldie, but goody deserved a Blu-ray release. And what a flawless audio and video restoration.

This film stars a wonderful cast of performers. The amazing one of kind film guru, master talented, Charlton Heston in your main role. Everything has already been said about this flawless genius. He has performed in some the greatest films ever created. Apart of so many masterpieces of film, that it’s shocking that one man could have graced the world of cinema like he has. It’s so sad knowing that this one of kind actor has passed away. I still find myself watching Charlton Heston films all the time. From the masterpiece The Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur, to the sci-fi brilliance of Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green. He is and will always be a master thespian.

Also starring the one and only character actor, master legend and one of the memorable faces of cinema as the side character or the original, “oh yeah it has that guy in it”, John McIntire. He mastered the character roles of Sheriffs, judges, law enforcement and just about any type of role when it came to the western film. He was a stable and a pioneer of performing. Started acting in the 40’s and went on to act up until 1989. Sadly this acting legend would pass in 1991. His career spanned many years performing in over 140 films, TV and Voice overs. From parts in 1960’s masterpiece Psycho to the long running TV show Wagon Train. Now interesting to note is he married actress Jeanette Nolan who also was in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho in voice only, she was the one and only voice of Norman’s mama, Norma Bates. John along with his wife Jeanette would do voice talents to some on my favorite Disney animated films. John would do the voice of Rufus in Disney’s Rescuers and Jeanette would do the voice of Muskrat Ellie Mae in Disney’s The Rescuers. John would also do the voice of Badger in Disney’s The Fox and the Hound and his wife Jeanette would do the voice of Widow Tweed. He was a gifted and extraordinary actor that left a shining reality in film and his performance in The President's Lady is no different as all others who grace this film.

Also starring the amazing Susan Hayward. She always gives a dramatic, touching, and ultimate wonderment of perfection in her performances. She was an award worthy actress. Twilight Time has honored her in other Special Edition Blu-ray products including I Want to Live which she would go on to win, the Best Actress Academy Award for that role, which she greatly deserved. Her performance in I Want to Live is one of the best in cinema. Her many performances in films are all wonderful to praise. Susan Hayward is one of the best actresses to ever grace cinema history. She had a long wonderful career of award worthy performances. From the amazing Smash-Up: The Story of a Woman (1947), to 1955’s I’ll Cry Tomorrow. She was nominated for 5 Academy Awards winning one as I have stated for I Want to Live.  Sadly, she was silenced by the mass murderer known as Cancer. She died so young. 57 years old, was way too young. Thankfully we have companies like Twilight Time that bring out important pieces of cinema to remember these great acting legends.

This is directed by Henry Levin, who had a long career, in the movie business as director. Bringing to reality many interesting films of all genera’s of cinema. From the likes of horror, such as 1944’s Cry of the Werewolf, to mystery, action, musical, drama, western, and just about any style you can think of, Henry Levin did. He was a hit and miss, director. Some of his films are not great, and some of his films are amazing, including 1946’s The Count of Monty Cristo. Each of his films, no matter if they are lower quality or higher quality, they were not flawed in the talent, Levin brought. He has a style that was memorable, and also stood out, no matter the film. He directed another film that Twilight Time has lovingly transferred to Blu-ray, 1959’s Journey to the Center of the Earth, and also April Love, you can read my review for both of them in the Twilight Time section. No matter the scale of film, Levin owned and created his own scenarios, inside his eye for directing. The President's Lady, hasn’t looked any better, Twilight Time’s presentation on this Blu-ray is flawless. If anything, Twilight Time has made the film even better.

The movie is about the story of President Andrew Jackson. It details his early years and his rise to fame through his military career. This also details his love of Rachel Donelson. A wonderful biography drama that sticks with you long after it's over.

Twilight Time has done another film justice. Giving a modern generation another important blu-ray of excellence. The President's Lady is a film that still maintains an importance in film making. A great film of imagery, acting, costumes, sets, and most of all story.

Isolated Music Track. A Composer of perfection. Alfred Newman. Alfred Newman was another pioneer of music. A composer and arranger and conductor of many, upon many pieces of music for film. The vast array of work under his belt can only show you his expertise at music, from, The Song of Bernadette, All About Eve, The Diary of Anne Frank, How the West Was Won, The Greatest Story Ever Told and many, many more credits to his name. What’s so different and amazing about Newman is, he only wrote music for film. This idea and concept showcases the beauty he had for film and that beauty always showed in the finished product. I have to mention the success of his music was honored countless times, winning an impressive 9 Oscars and being nominated over 40 times.
