My Review and Thoughts:

Film: (4/5)

Here is an extraordinary film that has been forgotten by Cinema lovers but thankfully to the wonderful company Twilight Time they have given it an outlet of perfection on their part. This is a movie that showcases all the beauty of mystery, suspense, and a deep thriller. A true eye-opening experience. It surprises me that more people don't talk about it. It surprises me that it's been lost by time basically. It's a film that's a must see, because it's a different type of experience. It's a wonderful jigsaw puzzle of mystery.

This bleeds the tension off the screen for the viewer. It's like Hitchcock style. It has a deep woven intrigue that has to be picked a part. This fills you with a feeling of emotion that you try to experience what the truth is. What is all the secrets? Just what is the happening?

It is based on the novel Echoes of Celandine by Derek Marlowe. Marlowe was a brilliant author. Truly an amazing man that could capture stories on paper. He created many, many books and wrote for television and theater and was a playwright. He was a master at Words. Sadly he died at a very young age of 58 from leukemia, after a brain hemorrhage during a liver transplant. He will never be missed in the literature world because his stories still stand today as being memorable and unforgettable.

Now there are two versions of this movie, one is 91 minutes and the other is the director’s cut which is 101 minutes. I am reviewing both versions original version lovingly remastered and also the director’s cut thankfully because of Twilight Time. Both versions are great. Something that needs to be spoken about is the soundtrack. The music score is flawless. The composer Robert Joseph Farnon is amazing. He shined with this film. The thriller and dark haunting persona leaves you in amazement at the grasp and tension the music builds. Farnon did one of my favorite television series of all time the 1960's The Prisoner.

A wonderful cast of characters built by truly talented performers. Starring the amazing Donald Sutherland as your main actor. He plays Jay Mallory a Hitman. His wife has gone missing and the intrigue and suspicion builds as he tries to trace and understand just what is happening.

Also starring in a small part, the extraordinary and one-of-a-kind David Hemmings as Edward. David was a master talent of the screen.  He was a stylish and sophisticated actor that every part he ever did he owned. He graced cinema with all the wonders that only a master talent could do. He brought such a deep thought-provoking reality too his characters throughout his career. He starred in so many films that stand out. He starred in one of my favorite films of all time Dario Argento's Deep Red. He sadly died of a heart attack at the very young age of 62.

You have a wonderful cast of actors gracing this film, John Hurt, David Warner, Christopher Plummer, Virginia McKenna.

This was directed by Stuart Cooper who is an actor, writer and director. Most will probably remember him as Roscoe Lever in 67's The Dirty Dozen. He directed the wonderful 1975's Overlord which is a stunning film and is a must see. His craft in creating The Disappearance on screen I feel is a gifted achievement. Sadly this film is often overlooked and for some reason people tend to dislike it and that's a true shame. I think its well-thought-out film. A mysteriously crafted and darker tone. A great suspense Intrigue, thriller and most of all a stunning drama.

Another flawless example of Twilight Time's ultimate perfection in given an outlet of forgotten and hard to find films. Twilight Time aced this Blu-ray once again for the lover of cinema.
