My Review and Thoughts:
Film: (4/5)
This is wonderful comedy. A great trip into the world of friendship and the ultimate adventure into the love and sport of Cricket. This is about a group of friends. All who are aging and want the glory of the game of Cricket one more time. They wish to explore the game for a final performance of guts and glory. This aging Australian team set out on one more tour with the main reality being on 3 games. Three important matches in India. This is about meeting there idol and icon of Cricket legendry Sachin Tendulkar. Now what ends up happening is a funny wild adventure of classic style comedy and an all-around ensemble of friendship. You have three main characters who are Teddy, Rick and Stavros. All best friends. They get it in their head to create a team and to begin an international tour. I think what I truly like about this film is the overall reality that it details on friendship and the love of friendship. The chemistry between all the players is what shines and unfolds all the beauty of the film.
The movie is mixed with I have to say some of the most extraordinary
cinematography I have ever seen. Mark Wareham creates a visual ecstasy of pure
eye candy. He crafts the shots with stunning art on screen. I feel this movie
is a modern day classic. It already has the style of being something of a film
to remember. The passion given to the film is
the passion that this film gives to the viewers. Truly a goofy and yet
important focus on being something of the idea of team work, friendship and the
art of creating a film that’s just pure lovely. This Australian comedy shines
in so many wonderful ways.
The visuals are superb and something I can’t get over on the
beauty of the filming of so many beautiful locations. I think this
film will grow an audience in the end with its style of comedy and its ultimate
reality of choosing a sport I don’t know much about. It has what I think
might become a film that grows a cult following in its style of comedy and
friendship and love for this sport. Fans and followers and people who do know
Cricket will consider this one of the greatest films. This is not just geared
to the sport fan or lover of Cricket, it’s geared to all audiences. The wonderful quality and ultimate film
creation of this movie stands out and shines in so many wonderful and amazing ways from comedy, to back drop, to ultimate emotional friendship; pure bliss. I swear I busted a gut laughing in the movie. It’s
truly a comical gem of perfection in creating something that shines in making
the viewer smile, giggle and just laugh until they cry.
There is a wonderful Blu-ray of this film put out with flawless perfection by Twilight Time Blu-ray which produced 3,000 of these special edition units. They did a wonderful fantastic job in giving this film what it deserved. The extras on the Blu-ray are amazing in themselves an Isolated Music &
Effects Track / Audio Commentary with Director Boyd Hicklin, Producers Robyn
Kershaw & Nick Batzias, and Actors Stephen Curry, Brendan Cowell &
Damon Gameau / Save Your Legs!: The Documentary / Bound 4 India with Ted &
Col / Original Theatrical Trailer and an insert booklet by Julie Kirgo about
the film.
I felt this film. A priceless example of comedy cinema and also the
idea this is based on a true story is even more fantastic. Twilight Time
blu-ray won me over with this film and there treatment of it makes it shine all
the better.
It’s a golden ticket of film in my viewpoint and I feel watchers of
the film will agree with me on its laugh out wonder of comical banter. Brendan
Cowell wrote and also stars in this film. He truly shines as the character of
Rick. Stephen Curry is brilliant as the character Teddy Drown. Damon Gameau
plays the character of Stavros and aces it. The very beautiful hot and sexy
Brenton Thwaites plays the part of Mark who is the young one of the group.
Brenton is slowly making a huge acting push in Hollywood lately starring in
such films as Oculus, The Signal, Maleficent and The Giver. All the actors are
just amazing and come together in creating something that shines. Now this is
directed by a new comer to the world of cinema Boyd Hicklin. He directed the
documentary on this real life reality of the film I am reviewing. The
documentary was titled Save Your Legs and came out in 2005 and is also one of
the special features of this Blu-ray. It was about the group of friends that
decided to create a Cricket club and travel to compete and play.
This movie I
am reviewing is a wonderful example that, yes sadly we grow old and times
change and sometimes certain realities are no more. It’s about having to face
the friendships changing and people you love and hang with, are growing up and
moving on and having to move along with the changing of time. I think the film
makes an ultimate reality of drama yet does it in a way that shines in a light
hearted, feel good setting. I highly recommend this film.
This is a must own Twilight Time Blu-ray, truly an amazing entry in there ability to bring out wonderful amazing films.
