My Review and Thoughts:
Really enjoyed this science fiction time traveling flick. A sophisticated and smart science fiction film. It
adds an interesting approach to sci-fi. It mixes logic with ultimate
imagination and true futuristic storytelling. This is based on the master storyteller Heinlein's short story "All you Zombies".
Directed by the Spierig Brothers, Michael and Peter. Written
and adapted from the story by the Sci-Fi master Robert A. Heinlein. Both
brothers are masters in turning a great science fiction or horror tale into
film format. I absolutely loved their first feature film Undead (2003) and I am
a big fan of their much underrated Daybreakers (2009). Truly visionaries that
capture imagination and ultimate imagery of darkness and futuristic means and
Predestination adds all those qualities and so much more.
What I like so much about this movie is this is not just a
simple time traveling flick or a simple science fiction film. It actually adds
a great interesting and thought-provoking story along with characterization of
each individual inside the plot. It displays itself in a book format as the
story flows off screen; as if the viewer is reading it.
This stars Sarah Snook as the character of The Unmarried
Mother. She owns the part and gives a performance that shines and sticks out as
memorable. I felt her character. I related to her character. She brought her
character to life and gave the character a believable persona. It was also wonderful seeing Noah Taylor, who is a phenomenal performer that I have watched my whole life.
This film is a very, mind bending experience. A twisted
reality of imaginative concepts that alter our perceptions of what true reality
is, or who we really are.
A modern little gem. Classic in an old school sense.
Brilliant in perfect originality. It bends the mind. It transforms the concept
of time and fate and the idea of the past, present and future.
Robert A. Heinlein would be satisfied and truly happy with
the end result. Spierig Brothers did Heinlein justice and they honored his
legendary status. This story was written over 50 years ago and it's truly
relevant then, as it is now.
I have always been a huge Ethan Hawke fan. He has a golden
talent of performing. His expertise of acting bleeds the sense of golden era Hollywood.
He always aces his parts and the character of The Bartender is no different.
Spierig Brothers did it again. They created something unique
and logical. A sophisticated science fiction. A smart concept. A classic story
re-imagined and retold and created in motion picture perfection.
I highly recommend.
