The Year of 2014 in Films:
I went to the movies 154 times. That is my least in many years. I spent 1,603 dollars and 17 cents on movie tickets. I spent 1,983 dollars and 22 cents on Blu-ray's and DVDS this year. I am a movie nerd.
First things first, I vote on movies that can be seen by the
public. I don't vote on films that only a hand full of people can see because
of screener's. True film choices are made if the public can see the movie. If a
movie is made in 2013 but does not get a wide release until 2014 then that film
will be voted for in 2014 because it will be seen by the masses and therefore
are eligible.
This year was hard for A bucket of corn to choose their top
10 films of the year. There was many wonderful Oscar worthy spectacular films
to grace the cinema but there were those few movies that never get the credit
they deserve. That never get the push they deserve because they don't have high
budgets or famous people, or the push of Hollywood or the glitz and glamour of
the red carpet type persona.
When I go into a movie, I don't go into the movie expecting
it to be an Oscar worthy picture. I go into it to be entertained, to be struck
with something thought-provoking or sometimes just a feature for senseless eye
candy.
All movies don't have to be put out by Hollywood or the
elite makers of cinema, for movies are movies.
My list consist of movies with high-class of the screen,
starring some bigwigs. There is some lower class Cinema starring some bigwigs
that never got the push and there are those that nobody's ever heard of.
To be a true movie reviewer you have to adventure outside of
just Hollywood cinema or the big budget set up, for there are countless movies
that never make it to the big screen, that never get the Hollywood push. There
are films that come direct to video. There are films that go through the indie
theater market. There are films showcased publicly that fight and struggle to
be seen. There are foreign films.
Lately movie reviewers, especially reviewers that have their
own blogs, video blogs and Facebook blogging about films, believe that all they
have to do to be a good movie reviewer is to review just American films. Trust me,
America is not the only one that makes movies. I am born and raised in America, love American cinema but their is also other cinema besides American cinema. America is not the only one that
can create something brilliant (sadly so many think that).
A little advice for all those that wish to make a career of
writing reviews for movies. Open your mind, because all the great reviewers,
all the reviewers that have become something in cinema history are people that
look outside the box. They are film historians that seek out all cinema. You
have to seek out all cinema to thoroughly understand the film industry.
So without further a-do, my top ten film's that I feel
created something new and fresh and entertaining.

Top 5 DVD/BLU-RAY COMPANIES OF 2014
5.
Vinegar Syndrome
They bring out the naughtiness in us all. They give the classic forgotten about underground smut cinema and artistic art house exploration of heat inducing orgasmic eye candy for the masses. I honor them this year for giving an outlet to Wakefield Poole's films. They also bring out hard to find cinema of a drive-in nature. B-movies, horror films and sexy films.
4.
Raro Video
A truly wonderful company that brings out the forgotten cinema of the world. One of the best cult film companies out there.
3.
TLA Relesing/Canteen Outlaws
TLA Releasing is a wonderful company that showcases and brings out so many styles of film making form Gay and Lesbian to hard to find Foreign films. A wonderful company that I hold in high regards in that they showcase the many wonderful examples of cinema from independent to mainstream.
2.
Twilight Time Blu-ray
A true personal favorite company of mine. They give an outlet of forgotten cinema that is truly wonderful to own on their special edition blu-ray's. many coming with the wonderful isolated score to the films. In the Year 2014 they brought many examples of films that needed to be on blu-ray. I was so happy to experience all the wonderful films they gave so much to in bringing out.
1.
Scream Factory/Shout Factory
This company brought out some of the best special edition production disc of films I have ever seen. They awarded us movie buffs with the 15 Disc Special Edition Halloween Series, the uncut Special Edition Night Breed, The Vincent Price Collection Part 2 all in 2014 and that is why they deserve the number one spot.

==================================
Finally I want to say goodbye to all the wonderful amazing
actors/actresses we lost in 2014.
There are two actors that I personally loved and grew up
with by watching many films on the big and small screen. You see when you’re a
movie buff your family becomes those in the movies and in a reality, you follow
them and experience them throughout there many examples of acting. It's always
a tragic reality when actors end up dead from stupid horrible means such as
drugs or the end result of suicide. So many wonderful actors have lost their lives
to drugs and suicide.
I always feel that they are selfish to take that talent away
from us.
There were many lost this year old and new.
The one's that personally hurt me was Philip Seymour Hoffman
and Robin Williams. Paul
Robin Williams gave me countless hours of senseless
entertainment and popcorn enjoyment.
Robin Williams was my comedy buddy that made me laugh,
giggle, smile and feel great. He not only captured humor but he had a real
talent at dramatic perfection. I will greatly miss him.
Hoffman was my brilliant, extraordinary and if masterpiece
was a person, it would be him. He gave me so many thought provoking and eye
opening and extremely brilliant pieces of acting perfection.
Both I will miss greatly. My movie buff mind is still
brutally sad from their passings. All I can say is I am happy I can look back
on their films and experience their wonder of entertainment.
REST IN PEACE
