June & July TV Wrap Up: 45 QUICKIE Reviews

Simple Quick Reviews: Rating Scale of 1 to 10

135 Word or Less or maybe more.

Randomly watched films that deserve a quick mention for being bad or good and a 1 through 10 rating.

Closer to 10 being good, and closer to one being a true poop shoot. These are the films I watch in between reviewing other films that I don't really feel like writing a huge review for.

This way I can just quick recap and mention the good and bad parts. I'm constantly watching movies so it would be a horrible ordeal for me personally if I wrote reviews on every film I watched. A lot of the films I watch aren't worthy even for a review, but this way I can scan all the films I watch and pick the out of the huge viewing Schedule.

World War Z

Starring: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz

Plot: United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

My Rating: 6 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

Enjoyed this film. Great action, awesome effects. Perfect fast creepy zombies. Love modern fast zombies because they are a challenge and don't walk like a mummy and still catch up with you no matter what. That makes no sense so the fast zombies creep me out. Liked the virus and wall pile up of crawling zombies when they break into Israel. Fun moments of perfect zombie action suspense. I feel the ending was weak and should have ended better. I felt the movie was rushed and there was a lot of unexplained moments and many holes in the story and plot. I overlooked most of that because it’s better to have a mystery and use your imagination then to have all the answers. Truly just a fun wild zombie film that's just pure entertainment.

Brainscan (1994)

Plot: A teenager is part of an interactive video game where he kills innocent victims. Later, the murders become real.

Starring: Edward FurlongFrank LangellaT. Ryder Smith

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

This is one of my favorite modern horror films of all time. A true underrated that never gets the glory it needs. Deserves a special edition blu-ray. Twisted game that I would love to play. Felt this one as soon as it came out and has remained with me ever since. This is a horror movie lovers dream. Fangoria magazine is mentioned and there are countless horror movie references and posters. Fun twisted horror induced reality. Trickster is one of the coolest characters ever created. Enjoyed the idea of a video game becoming real. There has been movies since that has tried to capture this sense of dread and horror yet never has been able to harness the glory of Brainscan.This is a must see game horror film that works in so many ways.

The Deliberate Stranger (1986)

Plot: Based on a true story, this film depicts the life of Theodore Robert Bundy, the serial killer. In 1974, after having murdered several young women, he leaves Seattle for Utah, where he is a suspect. Soon he starts his rampage up again and his ultimate rein of death.

Starring: Mark HarmonFrederic ForrestGeorge Grizzard

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

The best done movie on one of the weirdest, sickest and most interesting serial killers to date. Ted Bundy was a soul that clearly was damaged in so many ways that can't be explained. This is a perfect film that captures the story and the concept of a wolf in sheep's clothing. Truly a flawless acting performance by Mark Harmon. A brilliant performance that stays with you long after the ordeal. Mark is able to capture the disconnect concept of what is right and wrong. Bundy had a persona of emptiness and Mark was able to capture that persona to a flawless degree. I feel this movie is a must see forgotten piece of cinema. It needs a special edition blu-ray. All the acting works and the investigative reality is truthful and believable. Perfect cinema.

Perfect Murder Perfect Town (2000)

Plot: About the infamous murder of six year old child beauty pageant contestant Jonbenet Ramsey and the hysterical media coverage that made the investigation even more difficult.

Starring: Kris KristoffersonMarg HelgenbergerRonny Cox

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

This is one of my favorite films on this tragic subject and ultimate mystery of what happened that night. I have always been fascinated with this unsolved crime. I remember when the news broke and the finger-pointing started. This film based on the ultimate book showcases the incompetence and over all lack of skill that this police department had and the waste and destruction of the crime scene. This is one of the best done made for TV miniseries on a true crime subject ever done. Helgenberger does a fantastic job in capturing Mrs. Ramsey. Kristofferson creates a perfect character of a man that saw beyond all the finger pointing and got to the subject at hand, or at least the real truth. Great film, great drama and great mystery. Melodramatic but very sound.

My 135 Word or Less Review:

An absolute wonderful suspense mystery thick with a spine tingling ghost story reality that sticks with you. I love the BBC and almost everything that comes out in movie form when dealing with crime fiction and crime drama and murder and suspense and ghost tales. I found myself woven around the complete unfolding story in this MINIseries of the supernatural. I enjoyed the thick story and the ultimate secret and truth on just what is happening. I highly recommend this mini-series for any fan that likes a good mystery and a hidden secret reality that pulls all the punches to grab the viewer and hold them till the final conclusion. A good ghost story and very entertaining. Three hours of a perfect story. Great thick mystery involving the past and mixing with the present.

Centurion (2010)

Starring: Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko

Plot: A splinter group of Roman soldiers fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their legion is decimated in a devastating guerrilla attack.

My Rating 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or less Review:

A bloody and gory awesome warrior type film. Fighting galore. Interesting concept of historical events in the Roman empire. A single soldiers life is recalled in his most bloody moments. A soldier running for his life against a horde of revenge seeking non-Romans. Your main character Quintus played wonderfully by Fassbender leads you on all the bloody mayhem of his life and trying to survive a revenge seeking girl with a past against the Romans. Great film, wonderfully directed, awesomely written. Loved all the characters throughout. The special-effects, makeup, costumes, bloodshed and all the fighting was a spectacular treat for the viewer. Directed and written by the stunning and extraordinary tour-de-force of a director, Neil Marshall. This movie actually surprised me. I found it in one of the cheap bins at a department store and wasn't expecting much, but after watching it, it's a winner. Loved it. I recommend it.

Frankenstein's Army (2013)

Starring: Karel Roden, Joshua Sasse, Robert Gwilym

Plot: Toward the end of World War II, Russian soldiers pushing into eastern Germany stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Victor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein's work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades -- a desperate Hitler's last ghastly ploy to escape defeat.

My Rating: 5 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

Pure modern cult genius cinema. This is a magnificent drive-in twisted little trip into a gruesome, clever and most of all truly original concept of the legend of Frankenstein mixed with Nazis and the war. I find this to be extremely a gifted film of perfect b-movie, cult and modern classic of weird, wild and truly silly, yet is perfection for the fan of drive-in, late night, ghoul hosted horror and sci-fi cinema. It's a different type of World War II film. It mixes in the backdrop of Nazi Germany with yes you have read my review right Dr. Frankenstein. Very interesting. Awesome cinematography, costumes, make up and pure brilliant over the top special effects. An all around fun film for lovers of b-movies and films that step over all logic and create something so far out there that you can't help but enjoy.

================

Stalin (1992)

Starring: Robert Duvall, Julia Ormond, Joan Plowright, Jeroen Krabbé

Plot: The life and career of the brutal Soviet dictator, Josef Stalin.

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

Truly a wonderful miniseries. Robert Duvall gave an extraordinary performance as the dictator Stalin. The movie itself is pretty good and ranges from the history, coming into power and also the personal life and horrors that he did to his people and also to his own personal family. He was a ruthless mean sonofabitch and Robert Duvall plays the weird character perfectly. Only real flaw with the film was it wasn't brutal enough. Stalin killed millions and millions of people and it really didn't showcase the gritty darkness to his persona and his horrible means. It showcased certain actions and it also showcased certain incidents but to thoroughly understand a dictator you have to show all the horrible realities they have caused. Duvall and the story telling are brilliant. Flawless acting. Amazing performances.

==================

The Pawnbroker (1964)

Starring: Rod Steiger, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Brock Peters, Jaime Sánchez, Thelma Oliver

Plot: A Jewish pawnbroker, victim of Nazi persecution, loses all faith in his fellow man until he realizes too late the tragedy of his actions.

My Rating: 10 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

Truly an amazing piece of cinema. Masterpiece. Flawless acting. Wonderful plot. An awesome way to tell a story through editing of flashbacks in the main focus of the present day. The struggle and the ultimate emotional reality of surviving a concentration camp is detailed perfect. This is possibly one of the greatest films ever done on the plot and subject of the aftermath of an individual suffering from past actions done to him and his family. Brilliantly, flawlessly, masterfully acted. Extraordinarily directed. A perfect film. Steiger was a god. Steiger bleed the very recesses of emotions in this role. Sidney Lumet directed a fine picture of brutal reality and the torment of the mind and soul. The quick jerks of images flashing onscreen was a brilliant trick of film making. Almost like a subliminal message.

=================

Killer Joe (2011)

Starring: Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Gina Gershon, Thomas Haden Church

Plot: When a debt puts a young man's life in danger, he turns to putting a hit out on his evil mother in order to collect the insurance.

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

The last 25 minutes of this movie is hard core and brilliant in the disturbing nature. I loved this dark comedy. This twisted psychological piece of insanity. It's truly a one of a kind piece of violent story telling. The acting is flawless. The direction is brilliant, I mean its by one of the greatest directors of all time. Very violent not for everyone but is a golden ticket in my book. The only problem is Matthew plays his same old emotionless character. I enjoyed the last 25 minutes which I feel is some of the best real feeling violence ever filmed. A great classic done Friedkin way. A twisted comedy laced violent piece of perfect mayhem.

==============

The Possession (2012)

Starting: Natasha Calis, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Matisyahu

Plot: A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl's father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.

My Rating: 5 out of 10

My 135 Word or less Review:

I enjoyed this movie and thought it was fun for a PG-13 horror film. I mean its nothing to praise or go on about but it still works for a late night in the dark spook session. I have always been a fan of possession films. It's always been a creepy reality in my mind. This plays on the legend of the Jewish Dybbuk Box which is a box that contains a demon which you can find them on eBay. A fun simple horror film that can get under your skin. It adds nothing new but still is able to hold the viewer for it's simple yet spooky type nature of good and evil.

==============

Texas Killing Fields (2011)

Starring: Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chloe Grace Mortze, Sheryl Lee, Stephen Graham,

Plot: Souder, a homicide detective in a small Texan town, and his partner, transplanted New York City cop Detective Heigh, track a sadistic serial killer dumping his victims' mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh locals call 'The Killing Fields'.

My Rating: 7 out 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

A great twisted mystery filled with suspense and a disturbing serial killer story that is really on the back burner as the drama and characterization of each actor is the highlight. Loved seeing Sherly Lee,  my wonderful Laura Palmer. The shining star is Stephen Graham I enjoyed him for his character and Chloe does a fantastic job.  I recommend this serial killer film. I am surprised at the negative reviews and the underrated nature of the film. I really liked it and the suspense action filled showdown in the end works.

===============

Gone (2012)

Starring: Daniel Sunjata, Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Carpenter

Plot:  When her sister disappears, Jill is convinced the serial killer who kidnapped her two years ago has returned, and she sets out to once again face her abductor.

My Rating: 4 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

An interesting mystery that failed. A suspense with a twisted plot of what is the truth. No one believes Jill. This has that frustrating plot where your star knows the truth but all the police or authority don't believe your main star. I also like the reality that Jill might just be crazy. What is the truth. This is nothing spectacular to watch just to blow some time. The movie is what it is, simple, predictable and a little silly and directed and pieced together horrible.

==================

In Time (2011)

Starring: Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy

Plot: In a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth.

My Rating: 5 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

A simple fun futuristic world with action and fantastical ideas of living by the minute. It has its moments and also has some unique moral ideas. I do think to much talk and not enough ump. The movie is what it is nothing to rave about just an interesting watch. I did feel bored at moments. I say if you have nothing better to do then give it ago or simply not.

==================

Becky Sharp (1935)

Starring: Miriam Hopkins, Frances Dee, Cedric Hardwicks, Billie Burke, Allison Skipworth, Nigel Bruce, Alan Mowbray

Plot: Set against the background of the Battle of Waterloo, Becky Sharp is the story of Vanity Fair by Thackeray. Becky and Amelia are girls at school together, but Becky is from a "show biz" family, or in other words, very low class. Becky manages to insinuate herself in Amelia's family and gets to know all their friends. From this possibly auspicious- beginning, she manages to ruin her own life, becoming sick, broke, and lonely, and also ruins the lives of many other "loved ones". In the movie we get to see the class distinctions in England at the time, and get a sense of what it was like for the English military at the time of the Napoleonic wars.

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Leas Review:

A nice classic long forgotten about and that's a true shame and also an insult to the movie world. A priceless step back into time inside the world of a simpler nature but also rough for its time. Great flawless acting with the melodramatic stance of the time period of film making. A fascinating and historically accurate film. A perfect fun watch of a forgotten classic. Seek this out and step back into the 1930's when acting was acting and film making was film making.

First Blood (1982)

Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Richard Crenna, Brian Dennehy, Bill McKinney, Jack Starrett, Michael Talbott, Chris Mulkey, John McLiam, Alf Humphreys, David Caruso, David L. Crowley, Don MacKay,

Plot: A Vietnam Veteran uses his combat skills against the lawman of a small town when they arrest and abuse him.

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

 A great action classic that still works today as it did in the 80's. Action packed, violent and believe it or not a tragic message. Vets after the Vietnam war, where treated like garbage and that's a true shame, its disgusting to think fellow Americans treated those who fought, ended up being looked down upon. This is an awesome showdown with a damaged man against the thugs and bullies in law enforcement. Rambo is an awesome character and a perfect example of old school warrior and vigilante style hero. Brain Dennehy is always a perfect bad guy and he shined to the point you really ended up hating him. The dynamic plot of a Vet coming home, no job, no welcome and then finding all his friends are gone. He wonders place to place and then is mistreated and man handled and pushed to far. Rambo will always be a shinning character of action warrior brilliance. A great, old school, perfect action flick of one man against an army of thugs.

==================

Thor (2011)

Plot: The mighty Thor is a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to earth and forced to live among humans as punishment, once there Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero.

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review: Great cheesy comic book action fun. Simple and stupid and popcorn induced good time. A mix of super hero, comedy, action and an all around fun flick. I enjoyed it. Thor is simply put a good time. I did feel this in all reality did lack that flashy comic book appeal that I grew up with but with that said it still bled super hero power. I have to say I did want more comic book action. I enjoyed the moments on Asgard and the introduction to many characters along with Thor. By god Hemsworth is one sexy beast I sure would like to play with his hammer. In the end it was pure fantasy laced fun.

Her (2013)

Plot: A lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system that’s designed to meet his every need.

Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Chris Pratt, Rooney Mara, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, Matt Letscher, Olivia Wilde.

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

Masterpiece. A beautiful romance and a very emotional film that is a true beautiful and unique original wonderment. This is one of the best films you could ever see. Probally one of the best films of the year if not the best film. A true loving romance. A Beautiful beautiful film. I loved this move from start to finish. Spike Jonze directed a perfect film of beauty and techno romance. This movie is spot on to be an instant classic. I enjoyed this greatly. Some might not get it’s beauty and some might think it’s slow but in reality the beauty and the slow tone is what makes this a fantastic film. You get to know the character and also the beautiful voice. Stunning performances. Written perfect. Directed amazing. A flawless film.

Starring: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dwight Henry, Dickie Gravois, Bryan Batt, Ashley Dyke, Paul Giamatti, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Alfre Woodard, Brad Pitt,

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

Truly a tragic and beautiful film of a historical value. Acted wonderful. Paced and flowed with ease for the viewer. Not an original film but still is able to hold the viewer and has a great emotional reality that touches the heart strings. It’s a tear jerking film and also a film that is apart of history. An amazing attempt at capturing struggle and a wonderful beautiful acted film. An emotional reality of history that society should never forget. Only downfall is it’s not original. This story line has been explored many times in countless other historical slavery films and so that’s it’s only real negative but with that said, the acting in this film is a flawless beauty. Astonishing and is powerful film that is gripping to the viewer. Tears, beauty, and the Oscar goes?

Plot: An aging booze-addled father makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million dollar Mega sweepstakes.

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

Bob Nelson wrote a perfect story. Bruce Dern is magical in this part. I laughed so hard in spots. A true winner of pure perfection in plot, acting and direction. The characters are flawless. The building up of the characters is what makes this movie shine in perfection. Bruce I feel should win an award for his acting in this movie. Beautiful, laugh out loud hilarious and truly a poignant movie. June Squibb is a knock out in his performance. I highly recommend seeing this, owning this and most of all sharing this flawless comedy drama. A true original film that will last the test of time as it ages. This is a new Americana film that does what it needs to do and that’s grabbing the viewers heart and funny bone. A must watch film

American Hustle (2013)

Plot: A con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive British partner, Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild FBI agent, Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia.

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

David O Russell directed a truly comical wild film. The performances in this film is what true originality is all about. Jennifer Lawrence gives one of the most funniest and wild and weird acting performance ever, she was golden in this part. I loved this movie because it felt new, fresh and original and that’s way it’s a winning film for me. It’s excellent and truly is a brilliant film in my book because of the performances. This is an entertaining film with a flawless cast. There is a little to much hype for this film, but the acting is what makes this film stand out and worth watching. The acting is what makes this film deserve an award. I speak highly of the acting because it has award worthy characters. A must see.

============

Drive (2011)

Plot: A mysterious Hollywood stuntman, mechanic and getaway driver lands himself in trouble when he helps out his neighbor.

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks, Ron Perlman, Oscar Isaac, Albert Brooks

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

This was thought provoking and a fascinating film of life and violence. Loved the simple reality of the script, subject and dialogue. The car chases. The silence. The ultimate brutal violence that pops out of nowhere and seems to build more violence. Gosling does a fantastic job. Always sensed a modern day James Dean in his acting persona. This has car chases, shoot outs, murder and one hell of a head stomp. I feel this is not for everyone but it’s a shame if you pass it up. I felt there was a sense of originality to it. A sense of discovery of one’s soul. The lengths you would go to protect the love you ultimately can’t have. You love them no matter what and will do no matter what to save them.

==============

Out of the Furnace (2013)

Starring: Woody Harrelson, Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard, Tom Bower, Willem Dafoe, Forrest Whitaker,

Plot: When Rodney Baze mysteriously disappears and law enforcement doesn’t follow through fast enough, his older brother, Russell, takes matters into his own hands to find justice.

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

A true amazing powerful film that gives the viewer a classic yet original reality while watching. Wonderful performances. This is a good example of following classics such as The Deer Hunter in it‘s film making and it’s originality . Scott Cooper is what true film making is about. Cooper floored it with Crazy Heart and now he floors it once again. A wonderful cast and wonderful performances by all. I think Bale is at his best in this role. It does have it’s flaws, the story does have some holes and the editing I think is off but the performances alone is what shines. A slow burn film that likes to build the subject matter along with the characters and that’s why I think it works. Some will not like but it’s a modern classic.

====================

The Avengers (2012)

Plot: Marvels super team The Avengers is the superhero team up of a lifetime featuring iconic Marvel superheroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Capt. America, Hawkeye and Black Widow

Starring: Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L Jackson,

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review: All the great super heroes together in one movie. This was a film that needed to be made for all comic book fans. The wait was long but the end result was spectacular. A true wonderful action hoot that brings out the giddy little kid from the inside. One thing I can't stand about comic book movies is the long drawn out talking and lack of action. Avengers has a lot of talking but does have a lot of great action. I had great fun with this film. I feel its the best of the series of Marvel films. My favorite part and the most funniest part is when Loki meets Hulk in the building at the end just a priceless moment. Avengers is a great popcorn flick.

Mission Impossible 4 (2011)

Plot: The IMF is shut down when it's implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear the organization's name.

Starring: Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg,

My Rating: 5 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review: I am not a huge Cruise fan. This plays out, real cheesy at times and very over the top and corny. Couldn't really take it serious most of the time. I don't know if the film took itself serious. It did have some great action, suspense, awesome fights and foot chases. This is a fun simple action film that mixes comedy with nice adrenalin laced moments. Popcorn, senseless, cheesy action, fun. Expect nothing and you'll love it for what it is a shitty fun time.

Looper (2012)

Plot: In 2074, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to 'close the loop' by transporting back Joe's future self.

Starring: Joseph Gordon Levitt, Bruce Willas, Emily Blunt

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word Or Less Review: Very original, neat, futuristic time travel gangster type flick. Cool idea yet I felt the movie failed in its presentation of the idea. Hardest thing to get past is the weird, odd makeup they choose to use on Levitt. Its so fake looking that I could not take it serious. Great action, violence, interesting twist and turns, overall I enjoyed, but felt the movie was to long with a lot of useless moments that just stretched too much. Hands down the star Pierce Gagnon, perfect little actor, amazing emotions and actions for his small age. Odd movie but still a fun trip into something different and unique and new.

Premium Rush (2012)

Plot: In Manhattan, a bike messenger picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop, who pursues the cyclist throughout the city.

Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dania Ramirez, Michael Shannon,

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review: Sad this movie wasn't presented better in the previews, because the trailers make it look cheesy, in reality it's a pretty darn good movie. Bicycle adrenaline flick that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the movie. The story unfolds from twisted turns back-and-forth. The movie is told in a jump setting. The future back to the present, then into the future, back to the present, to tell the whole story that happened that day to lead up to what is taking place. You have your bad cop, Chinese Mafia. Awesome stunts with the bicycle. Can't imagine the stunt workers that did some of the stuff in this movie, they deserve an award totally. Overall fun film, great acting, great story-line, great characterization.

Hotel Transylvania (2012)

Plot: Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the counts teen-aged daughter.

Starring: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Molly Shannon, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, Ceelo Green, Jon Lovitz,

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 word or Less Review: What a true hoot of comedy. This is a priceless animated film that everyone should see. I laughed so hard during this movie, totally great. The voices. The characters. The situation. The story is just great. It's so funny that children and adults will love this movie. A new priceless way to bring the old monsters Dracula, Frankenstein. Mummy, The Wolfman, the living dead, Bigfoot and every other monster you can think of to a Hotel Transylvania. A priceless film that the whole family can enjoy. Senseless, goofy, silly fun, that makes me smile even thinking about it as I'm writing this review. I enjoyed it greatly and I believe that you will to. Highly recommend. Bleh, Bleh-Bleh.

Valkyrie (2008)

Starring: Tom Cruise, Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy

Plot: After being wounded in World War II a disillusioned Nazi colonel hatches a daring plan to create a shadow government and assassinate Adolf Hitler. Based on a True Story.

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word or less Review:

Amazing moment in WW2 history that sadly failed. It shows you the ability that not all Germans agreed with Adolf Hitler. I am not a huge Tom Cruise fan but with that said, he does capture the part. He does a great job. The only problem I have with the movie is the flow of the picture, along with editing and direction. It seemed to Hollywood. The movie wasn't gritty enough for WW2. It was showcased around a big budget and it seemed too stylized or better yet it almost felt fake as if watching a third rate stage play at times. I'm a fan of the movie. I just think it needed more. It didn't showcase enough of the reality that over 100 people schemed and created and tried. The movie needed a stronger direction.

Mr. Angel (2013)

Starring: Buck Angel

Plot: Enter the fascinating world of transgendered activist and porn pioneer Buck Angel as he shares his inspirational quest for acceptance.

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

Wonderful documentary on the reality of sexuality. Interesting story of Buck Angel a porn actor and activist. Angel is a man, with a vagina. Angel was born a woman but created himself as a man in body form. Angel left his vagina creating something truly odd, unique, and very different. He does gay porn which makes it all the stranger. If you came upon him you would never know he had a vagina or had been a women. Angel does not believe in a different sexuality. Just because you have a vagina or a penis, what does that mean, and why does it make you a man or woman? Why does that define you? Brilliant documentary. Truly logical and a wonderful understanding through Buck Angels reality which should be everyone's. Eye opening. A must see film.

==============

The Monuments Men (2014)

Starring: George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, Cate Blanchett

Plot: An unlikely World War II platoon is tasked to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners.

My Rating: 5 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

The main real problem I had with this was it was not gritty enough of a film. This happened during World War II and the situation that these men were in was death-defying and was very risky. The movie added a somewhat comical banter to it that I feel fell flat because it was WW2 which over 50 million people died. These men where heroes in saving the wonderful world of art but they also where soldiers. I just felt the movie was to stylized and felt fake on the lines of a poorly done b-movie with huge name actors.

Peacock (2010)

Starring: Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page. Susan Sarandon, Josh Lucas, Bill Pullman

Plot: A train accident in rural Nebraska gradually unveils a mystery involving the town's bank clerk.

My Rating: 8 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

This is a strange and odd thriller. A very interesting drama. Flawless extraordinary and brilliantly acted by Cillian Murphy. His best performance to date. He definitely deserved an award. It's unbelievable that this movie did not get a huge push at the box office, for this is an extraordinary story and a very deep dark reality of a film that is very confusing and twisted. You really never know what way its going and when it does, it blows you away. Twisted and psychological. The damage of abuse and what it can do to an individual can truly alter them. Flawlessly directed. Flawlessly acted. Superb disturbing story. Weird and very odd. A deep story and a 360 of a plot. Psycho meets Three Faces of Eve. This movie is not for everyone.

Evil Dead (2012)

Plot: Five friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods. The evil presence possesses them until only one is left to fight for survival.

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review:

Amazing special-effects. Brilliant makeup and gore throughout. Buckets and buckets of blood. A great horror film. Awesome retelling of what people in the horror world consider a classic. This was more violent and truly gorier then the original. Gritty brutal mayhem. Awesome show downs with the possessed. This plays for the gore whore. I recommend this re-telling for its update and oozy gooey nature of flesh and death. It’s a brilliant stand alone. A modern gem that gets to the point and stays with it. Don't go into this thinking about the original, because that's not the point, this is a standalone horror that works for this generation. Nail gun, a Chainsaw, machete and bullets equal a good bloody fun time. Who needs a good bloodbath?

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter (2012)

Plot: Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them.

Starring: Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie,

My Rating: 5 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review: Fun simple popcorn action flick. Nice gore and an interesting idea and concept. A silly film of CGI animation but still has its spark of a good time. Nothing to rave about other than to eat popcorn and enjoy a fight with Lincoln killing Vamps. I do say this is too long and could have been a lot shorter then it was. Three negatives I have is length and animation and how can you really take this serious. But with all that said it still was a fun silly time. I enjoyed it for what it was a comic book type film of good against bad. I liked the mixing of historical reality with horror fiction.

The Debt (2010)

Starring: Helen Mirren, Tom Wilkinson, Ciaran Hinds, Sam Worthington, Jesper Christensen

Plot: 1965, three Mossad agents cross into East Berlin to apprehend a notorious Nazi war criminal. Thirty years later, the secrets the agents share come back to haunt them.

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 Word Or Less Review: This stars some great actors. My true beauty Helen Mirren who I love and Jesper Christensen who is a fantastic actor and also the sexy and hunky Sam Worthington. This is a great mystery spy flick that mixes drama with a reality setting about the aftermath of war. The hunt for criminals and the process it took. The plot has just enough suspense, action and mystery for it to work as a great little spy flick. Leaves you guessing. And the twist and turns just add to the overall conclusion. I enjoy films with these type of plots. This is a strong what is the truth type film. Acting is wonderful, direction plays out with intrigue. Nazi war criminals are always a touchy subject. This is a great film and the title says it all.

Hugo (2011)

Plot: Set in 1930's Paris, an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.

Starring: Ben Kingsley, Asa Butterfield, Chloe Grace Moretz,

My Rating: 7 out of 10

My 135 or Less Word Review: A magical and sweet film. A wonderful trip into the imagination and the art and beauty of creation, machines, movies, the creation of dreams and fantasies. I liked this film for its imaginative approach to the subject of exploration and adventure. The beauty of creating something as if it was alive. A boy and his dreams, his drama. Great direction and acting. A perfect story of wonder and truth. I do feel it was very boring at times and tended to linger in spots. I do think the film could have been tighter in the direction department. Loved the costumes, stage sets and the beauty of showcasing the reality of original film making and what it took to make movies in the old days, it plays homage to all the classic pioneers of film.

Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)

Plot: A young woman travels to Texas to collect an inheritance; little does she know that an encounter with a chainsaw-wielding killer is part of the reward.

Starring: Alexandra Daddario, Trey Songz, Scott Eastwood, Dan Yeager

My Rating: 4 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review: I don't see what all the fuss was about, it plays out just like all the other remakes, blood, screaming and stupid people. I thought it was okay stupid, silly and corny just like part two was, part three was, and The Beginning was. There's only one classic of this series and that's the original Tobe Hooper's. Other than the original all of them play out just like the sequels, there always cheesier, more bloodier, more goofy and this is on that level. I was entertained by it. I thought it was fun, I'm talking about the unrated version, I think only a couple minutes was added but overall I don't see what everybody was complaining about, just cheesy fun. Nothing major just a fun drive-in b-movie.

Silent Hill: Revelation (2012)

Plot: When her father disappears, Heather Mason is drawn into a strange and terrifying alternate reality that holds answers to the horrific nightmares that have plagued her since childhood.

Starring: Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Sean Bean

My Rating: 6 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review: Nice haunted images of monsters and creatures and gore. Fun and weird, cheesy and a typical corny sequel but still was a fun silly watch. On the grounds of a direct to video horror film that has all the workings of a corny b-movie with a Hollywood twist of horror. A big budget Drive-In. I enjoyed it for what it was, nice makeup and violence and images of monsters, flash horror and loud jump moments of spooks. Awesome sweet and great special effects. Simple silly fun, most will hate but I found myself liking it for some odd weird confusing reason. Loved the makeup. Old school makeup and creepiness is always a plus. Down side to much CGI, but still a fun watch.

Elevator (2011)

Plot: A group of strangers with many different beliefs and personalities collide when they are trapped in a Wall Street Elevator, and one of them has a bomb. Now the key is to get out and survive.

Starring: Christopher Backus, Anita Briem, John Getz, Shirley Knight, Joey Slotnick, Devin Ratray, Tehmina Sunny, Rachel Pace,  Amanda Pace, Michael Mercurio,

My Rating: 6 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review: I can't believe I am about to say this but I enjoyed this movie. It's different from all trapped in small spaces type films. The characters and characterizations is what makes the film stand out. Each player is unique and has a story. There is great comic relief in the tense situation because there is a non-P.C. comedian trapped. The personalities are perfect together. Nine persons trapped in a bathroom sized space, you can imagine. Add in a dead body with a bomb and all hell kind of brakes loose. This is so much more then just a trapped bomb movie, it's a character study and mixed with great comedy and story even-though nothing really takes place outside the elevator. I enjoyed it for it's different approach. It was able to hold the viewer.

Choose (2011)

Plot: Grad student Fiona teams with her  detective father to find a ghastly killer who  forces his victims to choose between two gruesome fates.

Starring: Katheryn Winnick, Kevin Pollak

Rating: 4 out of 10

135 word or less Review: Interesting, great concept, been done a thousand times before, nothing new. The killers voice was quite boring just plain, nothing unique. The killings were kind of cool, Gruesome at times which was a plus but other than that it was a basic direct to video feature with nothing to make it stand out for the viewer. I got very bored and almost fell asleep. One plus to the movie is it has Lenny Von Dohlen In a small part I've always felt he was an underrated actor. This movie could have worked, could have been great, but unfortunately it fell apart and shattered.

The Corridor (2010)

Plot: Five buddies battle the pre-midlife crisis blues with a bonding weekend in the woods where they discover a ghostly corridor traversing the forest.

Starring: Stephen Chambers, James Gilbert

My Rating: 6 out of 10

135 Word or Less Review: Interesting movie it had its moments. The relationship between the friends, the characterization, awesome. Faltered towards the middle. Comes predictable, special-effects makeup was kind of corny, overlooking that I still feel the movie is worth a watch, it's nothing great or nothing mind blowing but it does make its point. Great acting, truly a great plot if it would've just went a different way, great atmosphere, awesome cinematography, the whole movie makes you feel cold, makes you feel your out in the middle of nowhere in the snow. If they would've stuck with the basic idea of the characterization of the friendship dealing with things I think it would've worked a lot better but I just feel it faltered and that's a true shame because it could have been a really great film with some tweaking.

The Frankenstein Theory (2013)

Plot: Prof. John Venkenheim leads a documentary film crew to the rim of the Arctic Circle in a desperate effort to vindicate his academic reputation.

Starring: Kris Lemche, Joe Egender

My Rating: 2 out of 10

My 135 Word or Less Review: What a piece of crap, wow this is a true waste of time, true waste of film, true waste of everything possible. This is that so-called as it happens found footage type of movie where they go out and look for Frankenstein, one professor believes that Frankenstein is a real subject and he is still roaming the Arctic Circle. The whole movie takes place with your basic Blair Witch ripoff type of story adding nothing new to the genre only adding basic stuff and even less. I was so bored in this movie I swear I could have drivin a nail through my scrotum sack just to cause some type of reaction.

==========

Hypothermia (2010)

Plot: To bickering family's vacation at a frozen lake miles from civilization must put aside their differences to fight a much greater enemy. Something has awoken under the ice and its prey is human.

Starring: Michael Rooker, Blanche Baker

My Rating:  3 out of 10

My 135 word or less Review: Another horrible, cheesy, corny, dorky film, a basic type of film that you would see on the Syfy channel on a Saturday night. True shame because it stars a great actor Michael Rooker. He is about the only redeeming value of this movie. Sadly he couldn't even save this film. A bat like Piranha creature lives in the lake and eats all the fish and now wants to eat the humans. Predictable outcomes, predictable reactions, predictable acting, predictable plot, and a really cheesy Kmart costume of a creature. Snore and bored.

The Frozen (2012)

Plot: After horrifying snowmobile accident a young couple is stranded in the woods and must survive while waiting for help to arrive. Events take a turn for the worse after the disappearance of Emma's boyfriend. She must battle the elements but also a mysterious hunter.

Starring: Seth David Mitchell, Brit Morgan, Noah Segan

My Rating: 4 out of 10

My 135 word or less Review: Predictable, nothing new, so-so acting, why is it there's a ton of movies lately about people being stranded in the cold or a person chasing someone in the freezing cold nothing knew, nothing great, boring at times, acting was stiff at times, no characterization, no new plot to even want to hold the viewer. Another lame attempt at capturing terror or a thriller in the middle of no where. I say pass it.

Mr. Hush (2011)

Plot: What is the ultimate horror? For Holland Price it is losing everything he loves. Holland is a devoted family man whose life is turned upside down by a horrifying figure on Halloween night.

Starring: Brad Loree, Edward X. Young, Stephen Geoffrey's

My Rating: 1 out if 10

My 135 word or Less Review: Oh god the pain, the suffering, I have the worst headache, this movie is a piece of horse shit, worst acting I have ever seen in my life oh God it hurts, it hurts so bad to even think about this movie. The only redeeming value is it has Stephen Geoffrey's, you all will know him from The original classic not the horrible piece of shit remake Fright Night as the one and only character Evil. Sadly he couldn't even save this movie he should have stuck with his gay porn career. If I have to sit through it again I choose suicide.
