My Review and Thoughts:
My Rating: 4.5 out of 5
A fantastic dramatic film of flawless performances. Tight
direction, believable. Twilight Time has done another lovely job with a new wonderful
outlet to this modern classic film. This is a story set during World War 2.
This is about the historical military reality right before they surrender to
America. The plot ranges from chronicling the Prime Minister and also about the
firebombing of Tokyo on May 25th. The time period of the film is set
from April 1945 to August 15, 1945. This is a wonderful complex, dramatic and
in my viewpoint flawless important film.
This is actually a remake of the Japanese film 1967’s Japan’s
Longest Day.
This is directed by a wonderful visionary that is both
director, film critic and even an actor. Been directing films since the 70’s.
His visionary talent stands out in many of his films. The Emperor in August
stands out and is a worthy film to praise.
Starring a wonderful cast of actors. The one and only Koji
Yakusho, huge fan of Koji. Loved in 2010’s 13 Assassins. It was wonderful
seeing him in this. Also starring the very sexy and handsome Masahiro Motoki.
Another favorite actor of mine. His many films truly stick out. 1998’s The Bird
People in China, to 1999’s Gemini, to the wonderful 1994’s Rampo. Loved him in
2008’s Departures. Also starring an acting legend. Tsutomu Yamazaki. Started
acting in 1960 and has been is some of the greats in film, some masterpieces of
entertainment. The 1980 masterpiece Kagemusha. Also stared in the amazing 1985’s
Tampopo. There is just a vast and wonderful cast of performers throughout this
film.
Another solid and amazing choice of Special Edition 3,000
Unit Blu-ray. I highly recommend this film. I think it’s a solid choice. A film
that should be seen and praised. And should be owned on this wonderful Blu-ray by Twilight Time.

This like the other releases from Twilight Time, is dynamic in transfer and
sound quality. A beautiful vibrant imagery. Crisp to the eyes. The sound is
nothing more than ear candy. A beautiful new outlet to this new modern classic film.

Slim Pickens on this one, but you get the important extra to
me, the Isolated Music Score. The music is wonderful. Done by a relative new
comer to the film score world. Started scoring music for films in 2008. Also
scores music for TV and TV Miniseries. Harumi Fuki is very gifted musician that
stands out and the art form of music scores, shines in The Emperor in August.

Overall:
A perfect transfer, perfect sound quality. A perfect film to
experience. A wonderful Blu-ray by the important company Twilight Time who
honors film in excellent ways. A truly wonderful new outlet to a new modern
film that should be expressed and talked about and Twilight Time has done that
yet again. Highly Recommended.
