My Review and Thoughts:

My Rating: 4 out of 5

What a true oldie, but goodie. A true step back into 1940’s cinema at its wonder. A totally awesome cast of performers grace this film. The music is brilliant, and this film has never looked any better. This Blu-ray is lovingly put together. This is highly recommended. The transfer to High Definition 1080p is flawless. What a wonderful example of classic cinema created for a modern setting. An oldie graced with new technology in capturing it in a whole new outlet.

Starring the wonderful beauty. All around classic master of cinema. The goddess. Guru of multiple talented acting. The one and only Rita Hayworth. What really needs to be said about this Queen of cinema that has not already been said. Well I guess I can give my two cents of thoughts on this passionate, powerful lover of the screen. She is and will always be one of the finest Golden Tickets of Hollywood. Film shinned with her face, stance, and exposure. Her talent was beyond words. She graced so many flawless gems of cinema perfection. Twilight Time has honored this true icon of cinema with this special edition Blu-ray. This is a must own piece of Hollywood. Twilight Time has also honored her in another Special Edition Blu-ray Miss Sadie Thompson (1953).

Also starring the wonderful Phil Silvers. A true comical actor that created many wonderful laugh out good time characters, through out his career. From 1963’s Classic It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World. To his long running TV show The Phil Silvers Show. It was priceless seeing him in My Gal Sal.

Also starring the amazing John Sutton. Sutton has been honored many times by Twilight Time. They have expressed his wonderful talent in 2 other Special Edition Blu-ray’s. Captain from Castle (1947) and My Cousin Rachel (1952). This master talent acted over 30 years in Hollywood. He was a performer that made you grasp his expertise. He truly was a prolific performer. Working with some of the greats of Hollywood such as Orson Welles, Olivia de Havilland, Gene Kelly, Lana Turner, Vincent Price and countless others. Often uncredited in his early work in the 30’s and 40’s, but mastered every role, no matter if it was small and big to a complete eye opening perfection.

But the one that shines and should be praised and talked about is the main star, Victor Mature. What a performer. What an actor. What really can be said about this master that has not already been said. He was a golden god of Hollywood. I mean all one really must do is look at his flawless resume of films. 1949’s Samson and Delilah. The one and only 1953’s classic The Robe. From 1947's Kiss of Death. I really can’t put my finger on it, he just was the awesome, complete package of classic acting. He had a true reality of making the characters come to life on screen. He had that at times mela-dramatic classic stance. He had the sophisticated persona. The smooth handsome figure. He owned the camera lens while performing. He was a natural talent. If many of today’s modern Hollywood performers could garner just a touch of his grace, there would be perfection in countless movies.

Directed by the amazing Irving Cummings. Irving was so much more than just a director. He was an actor in over 147 films and shorts. He was often uncredited as an actor. Just to look at his resume of film, from Actor, Producer, Writer and most of all director. He directed 80 feature films and shorts. Started as director in 1921, and directed until 1951 with his last feature Double Dynamite. Died a little over 7 years later, but left a massive career of old silent films, shorts and classic pieces of cinema such as My Gal Sal. From Westerns to Comedies, he truly was a brilliant man.

Slim pickings here but you do get the wonderful Isolated Music Track: The music for this film is done by a wonderful group of musicians, Paul Dresser (music/lyrics), Ralph Rainger (music)/Leo Robin (lyrics), Alfred Newman (musical direction).

You have a pure talent on the music in this film. A composer of perfection. Alfred Newman. Alfred Newman was another pioneer of music. A composer and arranger and conductor of many, upon many pieces of music for film. The vast array of work under his belt can only show you his expertise at music, from, The Song of Bernadette, All About Eve, The Diary of Anne Frank, How the West Was Won, The Greatest Story Ever Told and many, many more credits to his name. What’s so different and amazing about Newman is, he only wrote music for film. This idea and concept showcases the beauty he had for film and that beauty always showed in the finished product. I must mention the success of his music was honored countless times, winning an impressive 9 Oscars and being nominated over 40 times. Newman has been honored many time by Twilight Time with many wonderful releases of his music in film. Twilight Time has released Special Edition Blu-ray’s of 1956’s Anastasia, 1957’s April Love, 1947’s Captain from Castle, 1946’s DragonWyck, Hell on High Water (1954), 1962’S State Fair, 1959’s The Best of Everything, 1944’s The Key’s to the Kingdom, and so on.

Overall:

I really think Twilight Time honored so many classic actors and actresses with this choice of Special Edition Blu-ray. I am super happy to own this Blu-ray. This film has never looked any better. It’s a classic film that should be seen by any movie buff, and what better way than to experience it on this High Definition Blu-ray. 100 Percent, Highly Recommended. This flawless transfer to an old classic feature film is dynamite. I applaud Twilight Time for choosing this film to bring out.
