Company: Mondo Macabro
Starring: Werner Pochath, Ellen Umlauf, Birgit Zamulo,
Gerhard Ruhnke
Product Description: Haunted by a childhood trauma, a deaf
mute accountant develops a fixation with blood spilling across his skin. Brief
flirtations with ketchup and red ink seem to satisfy him at first but he soon
develops a taste for the real thing. Though he nurses a weird fascination for a
neighborhood girl who passes the time by dancing on the rooftop, he remains
socially withdrawn with his co-workers and can't even find comfort in the arms
of a hooker. One night he breaks into the property of the local undertaker and
ravages the prettiest female corpse. Now addicted, he habitually raids the
tombs of the dead and drinks blood from their throats via a spiked, double
pronged glass straw. Authorities and citizens are incensed by these crimes and
the search is on for this modern day vampire.
My Review and Thoughts:
My Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Wowzer’s what a strange odd and twisted little Gem of a
feature. Truly a perfect exploitation thriller. First off this is an acquired
taste. One must be a fan of these older foreign horror films to fully grasp its
entertainment value. I love adventuring into films I have never seen. Always a
treat. This was a fantastic treat in that it was taken care of and brought out
on Mondo Macabro Blu-ray in High Definition. So many of these older Foreign
Horror films are lost by time, or so badly degraded, because they were never
taken care of. Thankfully Mondo Macabro choose this for Blu-ray and created an entertaining
ride of Blu-ray Perfection. They went above and beyond in this new transfer on Blu-ray, absolutely stunning product.
This is a very effective and memorable horror movie that has
the tendency to linger in your mind long after the credits have rolled.
This film over the years has been chopped up and changed and
altered and destroyed throughout its run, but now it has a new outlet, with the full length original
version, remastered in 2k. Given to all the fans by Mondo Macabro. Mondo
Macabro truly knows how to bless their fans.
So many of these older foreign Horror films need proper
treatment. I am a huge fan. I love Foreign horror films specifically from the
70's and 80's. I grew up watching Italian Splatter films. Lucio Fulci is a Horror
God to me. So, going into this I was even more excited knowing this film would
be getting a new outlet. After watching it, Mondo Macabro did not let me down,
they amazingly fixed this film, although I have never seen this before I can’t
imagine it being anywhere near the treatment Mondo Macabro has given to it.
This being the first time on Blu-ray, I saw a wonderful example of how to treat
a film. It looks fantastic for its age and the reality that this film has never
been taken care of in the first place has no baring on this crisp perfection.
Directed by Marijan Vajda. This was his last direction as I
can tell. He directed over 80 projects, many documentaries.
As I have said it is an acquired taste. Some will find this
absolutely strange and striking at the same time. Many might roll their eyes,
and I did in certain spots, but with that said there are fans of this style of
film making, and in the end, I still was entertained because I have that
acquired taste in obscure, lost, strange Foreign Horror films.
Absolutely outstanding performance by Werner Pochath as your
main lead, known simply as The Man. Werner was a true acting genius in cinema.
He performed in over 80 features in his short 53 years at life. Starring in
countless Drive-In, Grindhouse style horror or exploitative cinema. He was
brilliant in Bloodlust.
A wild trip of a whole lot of bloodsucking, some eyeball
play and lesbian sex, need I say more than that. Lots of blood and weird
behavior equal a perfected film. Mondo Macabro aced yet another product to
praise.
Audio/Video:
Audio is fantastic. The sounds are vibrant in tone, which
most of these older films are dubbed or altered. You can watch this filled with
original German language as an option, or with optional English Subtitles. I
always love hearing, watching a film in its original language. Films that dub
or alter the original language take away so much from the film.
The is solid. Crisp and vibrant in image. The film has never
looked or sounded any better.

Overall:
This is a picture worthy to own and see, and now it is a
must own Blu-ray. This beautiful new product by Mondo Macabro. Bloodlust is a classic
70's horror flick. It has a wonderful cast of actors and actresses. The audio
and video are stunning. Mondo Macabro did another amazing job, creating another
wonderful transfer to Blu-ray. Recommended for diehard horror movie lovers.
