Snails in the Rain (2013)

Snails in the Rain (2013)

Starring: Yoav Reuveni, Yehuda Nahari, Yariv Mozar, Moran Rosenblatt

Plot: Tel Aviv, summer 1989. Boaz, a beautiful and alluring linguistics student, receives anonymous, male written love letters that undermines his sexual identity and interfere with his peaceful life with his beloved girlfriend.

My Review and Thoughts:

This is truly a sophisticated emotional drama that bleeds the pure bliss of sexuality. A wonderful film of truth and most of all brilliant performances that lead the viewer into a flawlessly performed experience in acting. It’s a story of one man’s inner hidden self. Boaz has a girlfriend and is dedicated to the love for her. Soon he is being contacted by mysterious letter that knows about his past attraction to men. Soon Boaz is consumed and somewhat haunted by the personal letters. His mind races and mixes with thinking questions, Who is doing this? Who are the letters from? Who knows about my attraction?

I really enjoyed this deep and sensual exploration of hidden secrets and the ultimate reality of who you are. The secrets and lies can control, cloud and destroy. A beautiful film with a wonderful written story, sexy in tone and displays itself as a thick drama.

What truly stands out is the ultimate tension and the paranoia controlling Boaz. It plays on the viewer and you can’t help but feel the tension and the ultimate dread inside Boaz as he is afraid his past and his world around him will crumble. The letters haunt him. Every visit to the mail, a new letter of ultimate obsession and deep inner thoughts and actions from his past come to light one letter at a time.

Also something that stands out is the chemistry of all the players. They control their parts and give off a vibe of pure excellence in the art of performing. Starring the striking and absolutely sexy and handsome Yoav Reuveni who in real life is a male model and trust me you can see why. His looks are very sexy and beautiful and fit the part perfect. He is able to control the reality of the character of Boaz into a crystal clear setting of building a perfect character. I think what is so amazing is this is Yoav Reuveni’s first acting feature. He aces his part and gives it his all to the character and for the viewer watching.

Another wonderful release on DVD from the amazing company TLA Releasing. They always are able to bring forth thought provoking and brilliantly entertaining cinema to the masses. TLA did it again with allowing this to be one of their releases, because it is a must see film. A wonderful scripted story. A deep complex and emotional journey that weaves itself into a perfect example of telling a story that the viewer can relate to and most of all feel the characters, as if they are real on screen.

This is a Foreign Film from Israel. It’s a deep film on the idea of coming to terms with your inner-self. It’s a film that showcases the deep horrors of certain person’s realities in trying to hide their personal true self. Sadly some still hide their true self's. Sometimes by choice but many hide because there life would change and everything they thought they knew about themselves would open up and feel vulnerable. Some still run from who they really are. Some gay men hide behind girlfriends and some gay girls hide behind boyfriends. Some cannot accept themselves or most choose to hide because of their surroundings and life does not accept them. Snails in the Rain is a film that explores one closeted man who is playing the perfect straight life, until it seems his world is about to crumble and that reality of knowing oneself is about to burst through torment and an emotional awakening.

This is by director Yariv Mozer. This is his first full length feature film as director. He directed a solid film. An emotional journey and an intense film. He has directed many documentaries. He is also a producer who has lent himself too many upon many documentaries and feature films. He is a gifted director, writer and producer that knows what he wants to display and does it in a way that viewers can relate to in the finished product. He is able to hold the story and make it come together as a complete perfection of acting and plot. The original story came from Yossi Avni Levy. Yariv Mozer took the story and created a film of perfection.

I really loved all the scenery in the film. It all blended perfectly with the story and the ordeal taking place. I think that is another thing that stands out with this picture is the crew and everyone behind the scenes. The sound was amazing. The wardrobe and makeup looked flawless. Everything came together to bring forth a very memorable film that needed to be made and needs an audience. It’s a film I will return many times to and I highly recommend it. It’s a feature film that you don’t forget. The story is amazing. The tight tension is beautifully numbing. The direction flows with ease and most of all the actors and actresses come together to build memorable characters and situations taking place.

Loved this movie. A perfect watch. This is how to make a great film.
